Maljakkopuu is a commissioned art work for a new hospital in the city of Espoo. The design is a set of 18 steel trees each holding 21 mouth-blown glass flower vases. The trees are located by the entrances of each of the 18 wards of the hospital. There the visitors can pick up a vase on their way to patient rooms. The art work was comissioned by EMMA Espoo Museum of Modern Art.

Our design is a set of 18 steel trees that each holds 21 mouth-blown glass flower vases. The trees are located by the entrances of each of the 18 wards of the hospital. There the visitors can pick up a vase on their way to patient rooms.

We are commissioned to create an art work work for a new hospital in the city of Espoo. The task is to come up with a solution that provides art for each ward and for the total of 450 patient rooms of the hospital. We tackle an existing problem –  the lack of flower vases in hospitals – and draft a plan to design custom flower vases. The vases are stored in sculpturous holders at the entrance of each of the ward.
The work was comissioned by EMMA Espoo Museum of Modern Art who manages the art for the Espoo Hospital.
