We made these candleholders for Artek to celebrate Lucia's day.
The ceramic Lucia & Lucius Candleholders are inspired by the thousands of Finnish girls that in deepest December dress up as Lucia the light-bringer, who triumphs over darkness. The International Gender Equality Prize 2019 was awarded today.
The prize, by the Government of Finland, which we gave the shape two years ago, was given to a global women’s rights organisation Equality Now led by Yasmeen Hassan (in the photo).

Secret Universe comes to an end.
Join our last pilgrimage throught the Secrets this Sunday. Guided by curator Carlos Minguez Carrasco from ArkDes we start our jouney at 11:30am. Half a year of workshops, Holy Days, celebrations and secrets comes to an end at 6pm when Secret Universe closes its doors for the last time.
Our Secret journey continues, and expands, with travels to a new secret country later this year.

Wild at Heart – exhibition opens at Vienna Design Week.
We'll have items from our Secrets of Finland and Russia collections in this exhibition about modern Finnish art and design. Exhibtion is open 27.9.–6.10.2019 at Festival Center, Über dem Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, Julius-Tandler-Platz 3, 1090 Wien. We'll be present on mornings of 26th and 27th September.

Getting ready for Mexico Holy Day at Designmuseum Helsinki.
The last of our Holy Days we celebrate at Secret Universe exbition will become a Mexican fiesta. We've been traveling around Mexico in 2018 and collaborated which several local makers in our Secrets of Mexico -adventure. Craft masters Pedro Hernandez Cruz and Tomas Ricardo Santiago Pacheco arrive with their tools and skills to create Mexican magic. Celebrations start at 11am. Free entry to Museum all day until 6pm.

Russian Holy Day at Designmuseum Helsinki.
Each month we celebrate one country included in our Secret Universe and invite our collaborating craft masters to show what they've got. August is for celebrating Russia. NEW PRODUCTS! Secrets of Finland by Company for Artek.
We designed a collection of six ceramic items celebrating Finnish festivities and beliefs. The Lucius and Lucia candleholders bring light to the dark winter. Pauper coin collector is based on a tradition of wooden paupers outside churches collecting money for the poor. The Midsummer Dream Vase is for the seven wild flowers one should keep under the pillow to meet ones future partner. And last is the Easter Witch with her dog who holds the decorated easter branches (virvontaoksa). Available in May 2019.

We designed a carpet for the new Central library Oodi.
The carpet is one of the six art-carpets comissioned for the library. Ours is an ode to the late Finnish writer Aleksis Kivi (1834–1872).




The base of our artwork was a tiny cabin where Aleksis Kivi spent his last year. The cabin is reproduced in 1:1 scale in the carpet (3850 x 7300 mm). The library users can now walk in the cabin and experience the conditions of life in late 19th century. Aleksis Kivi shared this tiny cabin with his brother’s family of wife and four children.
